This was the day I decided to leave Yellowstone early. Two failed backcountry trips, large crowds and I was ready for a change of scenery.

I had been told to make sure I see Yellowstone Falls so I decided to drive through there, then head out the East gate and find a camp ground.

I needed some documents, so I arranged with my Dad to have them FedEx to Sheridan, WY. I didn't think I could make it across Wyoming in a half day, so the camp ground in the Shoshone National Forest was a perfect option. It also gave me a half day of rest. It was a good day as I relaxed and actually completed a drawing at the camp ground and started a second.

The first views of Yellowstone Canyon and Yellowstone Falls. This was another one of those drive a click tours I later avoided at all costs. Basically just people climbing all over each other to try to get a good view. I enjoyed the views I had to work hard hiking to so much more.

I think the Elk is mixed up from an earlier place in Yellowstone. The rest are just shots of the canyone and the falls. I was still pretty tired from that hike two days before. Felt sort of like I had to force myself to walk out and get these shots.
On the road out the east gate, I stopped at one last mud pot on the side of the road. This one stunk like sulfer. I can still smell it when I look at this picture. Yuck!

This is my camp at Shoshone. It was an interesting landscape and I'm surprised I only got four shots. Behind my car you can see the river. I had this camp ground to myself. Seems like everyone was in Yellowstone. This was much nicer.

This is the drawing I did in the Shoshone campground. It was sort of an experiment and I'm not completely happy with it. A number of people have said it's their favorite of the drawings I did complete. Not the one I expected people to like. Strange how life works.

I started one other drawing before I left. It's in the Grand Canyon pictures. It's the one with the butterflies called Freedom. I only got a little done on it before I left and I was highly disappointed. As I kept going in the Grand Canyon it really started to grow on me.
