I had been thinking about doing a backcountry night at cracker lake, but the Many Glacier car camp was so empty that I decided there was really no reason. So I did a day hike there instead. It was about 7.5 miles one way. I could have cut 2 miles off the hike by driving to the trail head, but my car seemed to need the rest and 15 is a long but doable day. This is a shot on the way to the trail head over Swiftcurrent lake.
This is from a small bridge where Swiftcurrent lake drains into a lower lake.
From the parking lot at the trail head.
Finally on the trail. About mile 2 I found a large and very fresh lookin g bear print in the mud.
Some views of the canyon I'm hiking up
Crossing the river.
Looking back towards Many Glacier
The destination in the distance
I had to cross a bunch of these snow bridges. I sank to my calf on a few of them and really needed gators, but overall it wasn't all that bad.
Some wildflowers between snow bridges.
First shot of the lake. Anyone for a swim? I'm sure it's a nice temperature...
What a bad panorama that made!
This is where I sat and had lunch. In the last 1/4 mile I think the temperature dropped about 15 degrees. This would have been where I would have camped and I was glad I wasn't staying here for the whole night. I don't think I spent more than 30 minutes here because it was so cold.
Some final shots from the top of a large rock.

Some shots around Swiftwater lake on the way back to camp. This night I made a really good fire and kept warm until about 10pm which was nice.
