I'm headed to Zion National Park where I'm planning on doing some camping and backpacking. All the camp grounds are first come first server, so no real plans.

Bought a new digital camera the day before. The image of the cd case is my first picture with it. You can almost see the CDs bristling in anticipation of the upcoming trip...

Up before dawn and into the car. Also took a picture of the front door. Who knows why? It's a digital camera and pictures are nearly free.

On the way to Vegas I always see this hill and call it "Dog Hill" because it looks like a sleeping dog.
Stopped in Vegas for a last minute buffet, got some gas and headed out on the road again.

Just some road shots and I stopped in St. George Utah to pick up some last minuted supplies. Got everything I needed. I was actually looking for some shorts because it was hotter than I expected and a sweater because I knew it was going to get colder as I headed north. I didn't really expect to find a sweater, but on a rack with hawiian shirts was one last sweater marked down to $2. That had my name all over it.
Starting to see some canyons ahead.
This was one of the first available camp sites. #33, a lucky number for sure. I paid for two nights because it was $16 per night and I had $37 in my pocket which made perfect change for two nights. Got my tent setup and headed out on a hike and to check out what I need for a backcountry pass.

The shulttle bus is the only way to get up and down the canyon as it is closed to regular vehicles. Hiking a short 2 miles to the top of Watchman trail.

At the top of Watchman.

Great views of the valley from this spot. It was actually a really short hike even though it was hot.

Coming back down I got some shots of this really neat tree, a dandylion (hey when it's a digital who cares how many shots you take!) and some foliage for a nice texture.
Back at the bottom of the canyon. I went to the backcountry office to figure it all out. Only $10 for the permit, but I didn't get it until the next morning because I wasn't sure where or how long I wanted to go for. I had all the info I needed though.
That's the end of the day.
